Yikes! With all the electronic tracking that should make it easy to find a customer, Paymentech Canada sure doesn't want to help. I know they can't and shouldn't give out personal information, but certainly they could and should talk to each other to protect a client's interest. So I will turn to good ol' social media to see if I can get some shares that will help find the lady who left this big tip. I was overseas when it happened, but the server who waited on her contacted me and set the money aside as she knew it must be an error. Kudos to Delaney! She caught the mistake shortly after the transaction, but did not manage to catch up with the customer. For that, we sincerely apologize. The incident happened at Roadside Willies on Friday April 27, 2018 at lunchtime. Please share this post around and we'll keep our fingers crossed. In the meantime, I will visit the local TD Canada Trust Branch today and perhaps they can pressure Paymentech into releasing the client information to them.

Clarification: It has been suggested that the server added the tip by mistake. That is incorrect. The customer would have received the bill for $31.50. It would be my guess that she then wanted to leave a $3.00 tip and, in error, hit the Tip Percentage Key rather than Amount. That would cause the tip to be 300%. The server would take a quick look and only see Payment Approved on the machine and go about her business. She noticed the error when she proceeded to close that table in the point-of-sale system. She ran to try and catch the lady, but it was too late. In order to balance the payment with the restaurant bill, she had no choice but to put the tip into the system.

Update 1: I am waiting to get a return call from the local TD Canada Trust Branch. I also received a call from a friend in New Glasgow who saw the post and heard that a group of folks participating in a TOPS Club event had lunch at Roadside Willies on that day. I will send an email to the organizer of that event, which was held at the CEC.

Update 2: I received a reply from the TOPS Club event organizer and she will spread the word to the group that had lunch at Willies on April 27th. Also, the local branch of TD Canada Trust returned my call and I sent the payment information to her. I asked her to kindly contact Paymentech Canada and request the card holder's contact information so the error could get fixed.

Update 3: I just can't believe it. TD Canada Trust called back and told me they contacted Paymentech Canada and explained the issue to them and they flatly refused to give any contact information whatsoever. TD said they just needed the card number and they could do the rest. The lady at TD even pleaded and begged. Nothing. Nada. Zippo. They did tell her they could offer a refund. Why did they tell me last week that they couldn't, and that it was up to the customer to resolve their own mistakes? I called back, ragged them a bit, and authorized a refund. The refund will hit her bank account within the next 5-7 business days. Many thanks to Krystle at the local TD Canada Trust branch and everyone who helped by taking the time to share this post. Problem solved!
